Doris (Character Reference Sheet 2015)

[Been meaning to get this one out for while, because I've wanted to update Doris's character ref for while now for multiple reasons.]

• Species: Meran ( Nato Sapien- An evolutionary cousin/off-shoot of homo-sapien A.K.A. Humans. Merans and their civilization evolved to live under the intense water pressure and temperatures of the ocean. They drastically evolved to appear more cetacean than simian because of this, but do not require the need to return the surface for air. Instead their skin is designed both to provide water resistance and absorb oxygen from the water around them.)

• Powers and Abilities: While in water, Doris is incredibly agile and can achieve of 25 mph at top swim speed. Her large eyes allow her to see better in darker waters and while her slick, smooth body and fins grants her better water resistance. Doris also possesses echolocation abilities that are most effective underwater for locating both subjects and objects. Doris's Meran physiology also makes her quite durable in some cases as she can dive up to 1000 feet deep without being bothered by water pressure, easily handles the frigid temperatures of the deep ocean, and is physical stronger (especially underwater) than most human beings. She is multilingual, knowing 14 different Meran dialects and 8 human dialects. She has limited self-defense combat training from training in the Atlantean Royal Expeditions Academy but prefers to use diplomacy or simply avoid confrontation and flee...though she will defend herself if cornered.)

• Weaknesses: Although she can breath air and can walk on land; Doris's body requires to stay wet and hydrated for her to maintain her respiration and stamina. Dryer and Hotter climates will exhaust her very quickly and her echolocation/sonic powers are less potent on land. 

• Personality: Doris is a brilliant young mind and avid learner of all things human and surface-worldly. She views the surface and people as new and exciting rather then looking at them with fear and loathing. Despite her oath to be cautious in studying the surface world and culture, Doris excitement can the best of her and result in some " complications" which she always seems to get out of one way or another. Doris is both an optimist and a pacifist, despite her basic combat training and prefers diplomacy to violence but will defend herself if necessary. She is known to be very selfless and rescue drowning humans from sinking ships and swim them to shore is among one the acts she's known to perform. She often speaks very politely and rather softly, and will often become overly apologetic and a bit frantic and clumsy if she's felt she had offended someone. She can also be a bit scatterbrained and will sometimes go off on somewhat related tangents in conversations. Slow to anger and frustration, she does get a bit perturbed when people call her a fish. Though not confirmed by herself, some rumors suggest she has a minor bondage fetish and enjoys being tied up or playing damsel in distress.

• Background: Doris grew up in the Meran capital of Atlantis as the 2nd child of her parents. Like all Meran children, she was raised by the community rather than independently by her parents. She often dreamed of visiting and learning of the lands and people who lived above the sea, which made her somewhat of an outcast among her peers. However her incredible drive and intelligence paved her way to success. At age 20,she was openly accepted the Atlantean Expeditions Academy due to her aptitude and eventually majored in Human and Surface Understanding and attracted the attention of the Atlantis Exploration & Discovery Society. Shortly after graduation she invited to become a member and excitingly joined almost instantly upon receiving her invitation. Now as one of the newest and youngest members, she travels the globe covertly studying human cultures and interaction...along with other more "exciting" adventures.

So...what do you all think? I'd love to here your feedback on her lastest design! And if anyone plans to draw her (myself included) I thought this would be a better character and more up-to-date character sheet.
